Green Power Program of the Year
Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) received the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) 2009 Utility Green Power Program of the Year Award.

MGE was recognized for

  • expanding its wind power program by eight times
  • significantly reducing the price premium
  • growing the number of participants purchasing 100% green power to 70%

Industry News

Wisconsin Legislative Issues - MGE is a founding member of the Customers First! Coalition. Customers First! advocates on behalf of their members on electric policy issues. Track the latest local industry developments through their Web site at Customers First!

Federal Legislative Issues - MGE is a member of the Transmission Access Policy Study group (TAPS). TAPS advocates on behalf of its members for open and equal transmission access and for strong protections against the exercise of market power in electric markets. Track the latest national industry developments through their Web site at TAPS.

FERC Issues - The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is an independent regulatory agency within the Department of Energy that regulates the transmission and wholesale sales of electricity in interstate commerce, among other things. MGE, through our membership in TAPS, has worked hard to assure that decisions made are in the best interests of our customers.

Customers First! Coalition - A coalition to preserve Wisconsin’s reliable and affordable electricity.

American Transmission Company, LLC - The company which now owns, maintains, monitors and operates electric transmission service in Wisconsin.

Federal Energy Regulatory Commission - An independent regulatory agency within the Department of Energy that regulates the transmission and wholesale sales of electricity in interstate commerce, among other things.

Mid-America Interconnected Network, Inc. - MAIN is one of 10 reliability councils under NERC. It includes portions of Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Michigan and affiliate members across northwest Indiana.

Midwest Independent System Operator - Formed in 1996 to provide access to a large regional transmission system, solve transmission pricing problems, maintain system reliability and security, and coordinate planning of the transmission system.

North American Electric Reliability Council - NERC is a nonprofit corporation formed in 1968 by electric utilities to promote the reliability of electricity supply for North America.

Transmission Access Policy Study Group - A coalition providing a voice for small transmission-dependent utilities and consumers fighting against market power and for fair and open transmission access.
