Thanks to the solid and sustained support that MGE customers have shown for clean, renewable energy options, MGE has greatly expanded our renewable capacity over the past two years and recently received recognition by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

MGE was rated in the DOE National Renewable Energy Laboratory's top 10 utility green pricing programs in two categories:

• Customer participation rate - 4th
• Sales as a percent of total retail electric sales - 6th

In 2008, MGE expanded its wind power capacity:

• From 11 MW to 137 MW today. 

And solar capacity:

• From 80 kW to 328 kW today.

Fully 11% of our overall electricity mix will come from renewable energy in 2010.

We have grown our renewable capacity because customers have asked us to do more than regulations require.  Based on customer participation in our wind power program over the past 10 years, we were confident that our customers would voluntarily pay more to support the development of additional clean energy sources. 

• More than 10% of our residential customers now purchase green energy through Green Power Tomorrow. 
• Green energy sales to government and commercial and industrial customers increased by 13 times since 2008.
